RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Gov. Bob McDonnell has appointed two new Cabinet officials to serve the last couple of months of his term.

Javaid Siddiqi (jah-VAYD' sah-DEEK'-ee) takes over as secretary of education on Nov. 18. He became deputy secretary two years ago after 12 years with the Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Siddiqi succeeds Laura Fornash, who took a position with the University of Virginia.

Bryan Rhode (RODE'-ee) becomes secretary of public safety on Nov. 1. He was appointed deputy secretary in January after serving less than a year as a Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control commissioner.

Rhode replaces Marla Decker, who has been appointed by McDonnell to the Virginia Court of Appeals.

McDonnell's term ends in January.
