WASHINGTON – Longtime Sen. Barbara Mikulski will endorse Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown in his bid for the state’s governor next year, multiple sources confirm to WTOP.
The 77-year-old senatorn from Maryland will make the announcement at the Silver Spring Civic Building Sunday.
Brown’s campaign would not confirm or deny the endorsement.
“You’ll just have to come to see who it is,” a spokesperson for Brown’s campaign told WTOP.
Brown has received endorsements from many elected officials in Annapolis and in Washington, D.C. since he announced his candidacy in May at Prince George’s County Community College. They include U.S. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, Congressman Elijah Cummings, Maryland Senate President Thomas “Mike” Miller and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
Attorney General Doug Gansler and State Delegate Heather Mizeur of Montgomery County are challenging Brown for the nomination.
“Hopefully, Senator Mikulski will finally prod Anthony Brown, after 130 days as a candidate, to add an issues section to his website and offer up ideas to solve important challenges, like the out-of-control Baltimore prison scandal or the sky-high foreclosure rate, which are both occurring on his watch,” Doug Thornell, a spokesman for Gansler, tells the Washington Post.
