NORFOLK, Va. -- In the wake of two off-campus shootings, Old Dominion University undercover police will drop in on some house parties this weekend.
ODU police chief Rhonda Harris tells The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/15hhY4Z) that campus police will be looking for illegal activities. She says publicizing the undercover operation might act as a deterrent.
The university recently warned students in a safety alert to avoid off-campus parties. The university also said members of the ODU community who live in the area should contact campus police to discuss safety.
A man was shot outside a house party near the campus on Aug. 24 following a fight. On Sunday, a man and a woman were shot near the site of the earlier shooting.
ODU police have jurisdiction in off-campus neighborhoods.
