NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - A Newport News woman who collected her late grandmother's Social Security benefits will spend six months in prison.
Forty- eight-year-old Yvette A. Disnew had pleaded guilty in May to theft of government monies. The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1eyfzGi ) reports that Disnew was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court.
According to court documents, Disnew collected more than $152,000 from the Social Security Administration after her 87- year-old grandmother, Carrie Lee Mason, died in 1999. The scheme was discovered in 2012.
