Md. school bus driver suspended for cellphone use

Saturday - 8/31/2013, 6:31pm  ET

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- An Anne Arundel County school bus driver has been suspended after a photograph posted online appeared to show him using his cellphone while driving.

School system spokesman Bob Mosier tells The Capital of Annapolis (http://bit.ly/1crnCD3 ) that the driver was pulled from his afternoon route Friday and will remain suspended during the investigation.

The driver's name was not disclosed.

A mother of a Central Middle School student posted on Facebook a picture that appeared to show the driver talking on his cellphone while driving. The driver's bus serves that school.

Maryland law prohibits drivers from using a cellphone without a hands-free device. Bus drivers face a three-day suspension for their first offense. Repeat offenders face suspension for at least five days and could also lose their bus license.
