Police release photos of suspects in attempted ATM thefts

WASHINGTON – Prince George’s County police have released surveillance photos of two men they say are linked to two separate attempted ATM thefts.

The incidents happened Wednesday morning at two Maryland gas stations in Suitland and Camp Springs.

Wearing dark clothes and masks, the thieves made their first attempt just before 5 a.m. at an Exxon on Allentown Road, police say.

“During this attempt, the suspects wrapped a chain around an ATM machine and tried to steal it,” says officer Nicole Hubbard.

A short time later, officers responded to a Citgo station on Old Branch Avenue in Camp Springs and found two men in the process of trying to steal an ATM.

The two suspects drove away in a pickup truck, as police arrived on the scene.

The pickup truck was found nearby.

Police say the men did not get money from either ATM.

Police believe the two incidents are related given the timing, locations and style of pickup truck used in the attempts.

Up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.

Earlier this month, two gas stations were robbed of their ATMs by two men with a pickup truck. Police are investigating if the attempted robberies Wednesday morning are related.

An empty ATM was discovered Tuesday morning in a D.C. construction site. Prince George’s County police say that ATM is not related to the robberies earlier this month.
