BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police say a trainee has been hospitalized after being struck in the thigh by a bullet's metal fragment during training.
Spokesman Sgt. Eric Kowalczyk says the trainee was undergoing routine firearms training about 10:50 a.m. Tuesday at the U.S. Army National Guard Base in Glen Arm.
Kowalczyk says a bullet ricocheted off of one of the metal target holders, broke into fragments, and h it the trainee in the upper thigh.
The trainee was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The spokesman says all appropriate safety measures were in place, including protective gear.
In February, a trainee for the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus police was shot in the head at a different firearms training center.
