WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Nationals called up right-handed pitcher Tanner Roark from Triple-A Syracuse, optioned left-hander Xavier Cedeno back to the minors and moved lefty starter Ross Detwiler to the 60-day disabled list.
The moves came before Washington's game against Atlanta on Tuesday night.
Roark is 9-3 with two saves and a 3.15 ERA in 33 games at Syracuse in 2012, 11 as a starter. He could work in relief for the Nationals right now, then start when rookie right-hander Taylor Jordan's innings limit is reached, which is expected to happen after about four more appearances.
The Nationals got Roark in the trade that sent shortstop Cristian Guzman to the Texas Rangers in 2010.
Detwiler went on the 15-day DL on July 7 with a herniated disc in his back.
