WASHINGTON - A D.C. man has pleaded guilty second-degree murder for setting a man on fire.
Forty-one-year-old Shawn Lewis entered the plea Wednesday in the death of 38-year-old Douglas Farley. Under a plea deal, prosecutors and the defense will recommend a term of between 16 years and 24 years in prison at sentencing Oct. 18.
According to government evidence, on June 28, Farley was on the back porch of the apartment building where Lewis lives. Prosecutors say Lewis went to the porch holding a lighted piece of newspaper and a container of ignitable liquid.
Authorities say Lewis threw the liquid on Farley and ignited it with the newspaper.
Farley died at the Washington Hospital Center on July 3.
