What does BET CEO Debra Lee have in common with former Washington Redskins owners George Preston Marshall and Jack Kent Cooke?
Each is a former owner of 2801 Rock Creek Drive, a California-contemporary home in D.C.’s Massachusetts Avenue Heights area that Lee just sold for $4.7 million. Lee retained Washington Fine Properties to market the home to interested buyers in a sale that closed earlier this month. The home was originally listed for nearly $5.2 million and is assessed at $7.2 million, according to D.C.’s Office of Tax and Revenue.
Washington Fine Properties declined to disclose the buyer but noted the home has plenty of history and grandeur to it, going back to its original design and construction in 1939 by Kennedy Center architect Edward Durell Stone. Marshall, the ‘Skins original owner, commissioned the five-bedroom home’s construction.
The gated residence has hosted plenty of high-caliber guests, including presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan, according to Washington Fine Properties. It features amenities including heated blue stone floors, a central fireplace and retractable 52-inch plasma television. Then there’s the 11-foot ceilings, seclusion-providing mature deciduous and evergreen plantings, automatic front and rear gates and a landscape overlooking Rock Creek Park.
“It has been a privilege to bring such an important property into the market and to achieve such a successful result,” Washington Fine Properties listing agent Marilyn Charity said about the sale.
