Va aide license suspended for wheelchair incidents

Monday - 7/29/2013, 9:30am  ET

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) -- A nursing aide's state license has been indefinitely suspended over two incidents involving runaway wheelchairs.

An order from the Virginia Board of Nursing says Shanice Terry left two residents who use wheelchairs unattended on a porch at Trinity Mission in Rocky Mount. Both residents rolled away in their wheelchairs. One was taken to a hospital with scrapes on her right knee. The other patient wasn't injured.

The order says the board determined that Shanice Terry was negligent in the residents' care.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/16epTQ7 ) reports that Terry was fired from her position following the October 2012 incidents.

Terry didn't contest the disciplinary charges.

She is barred from working as a nursing aide at any long-term facility that receives Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement.
