FISHERSVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Virginia State Police say an Augusta County woman died after her vehicle was hit by an Amtrak train.

State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller identified the victim as 46-year-old Andrea Jane Johnson Gum of Fishersville.

Geller says the eastbound train hit an SUV driven by Gum as the vehicle crossed the tracks at the end of a private drive. The SUV overturned several times and Gum was thrown from the vehicle. She died at the scene.

Geller says the train's engineer braked but couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting the SUV.

The accident occurred Wednesday afternoon in Fishersville.

Geller says the train's 195 passengers and the engineer weren't injured. The train sustained minor damage. It was traveling to Charlottesville when the accident occurred.
