NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia-based amphibious assault ship USS Wasp has a new commanding officer.
The Navy says Capt. Brian Teets relieved Capt. Gary Boardman as the commanding officer of Wasp during a ceremony on the ship on Thursday.
During Boardman's time aboard Wasp, the ship conducted the first at sea launch and recovery of the F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter.
Under Teets' command, Wasp will continue to operate as the test platform for the joint strike fighter. The Wasp will begin a maintenance period while in dry dock this fall after going underway for additional joint strike fighter testing.
Boardman's next assignment is as the chief of staff for Expeditionary Strike Group 2 in Virginia Beach.
