MIDDLE RIVER, Md. -- Baltimore County police have confirmed that a 10-year-old boy was struck by a train in Middle River. Officers had received a report of someone being hit, but did not find a victim at the scene.
A spokesman said Monday that an Amtrak engineer had called Sunday morning to say he believed the train had hit a child on the tracks. Police found evidence that someone had been on or near the tracks, and found fishing tackle and a shirt beneath the train.
Police later learned that 10-year-old Tyler Eugene Smith of Essex had been taken to a hospital by his father, Randolph L. Smith. Police say Smith reported that his son had fallen off playground equipment.
Police say Tyler confirmed he was hurt on the tracks.
Amtrak Police are investigating.
