WASHINGTON - Some people get free coffee at work. Some people get discounted gym memberships through work but neither ranks as the most important employee benefit, according to a recent survey.

The benefit workers like best is health care coverage, according to the Glassdoor Employment Confidence Survey. The survey, which polled people online, shows more than three out of four workers rank medical plans as the most important employee benefit.

The second, third and fourth most important benefits are paid vacation and sick time, 401K and retirement plans and dental coverage respectively.

Also in the top 10 are employee training, wellness programs, employee discounts and tuition reimbursement.

Google gives employees free gourmet food and General Mills provides free dry cleaning, according to, but those types of services may not matter to some employees. The survey found one in five employees thinks office perks are an important workplace benefit.
