RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Dominion Virginia Power says a proposed gas-fired power plant in Brunswick County is the best deal for its customers.
The company wants to build the $1.3 billion, 1,358-megawatt power plant near Lawrenceville.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/13uQSaB ) reports that the company told the State Corporation Commission this week that it expects the power plant to save customers almost $1 billion over its expected life, compared with the next-best alternative. Dominion also said the plant would meet customer demand for more generating capacity beginning in 2016.
Dominion was responding to an SCC hearing examiner's recommendation in June that regulators deny its application to build the power plant.
The hearing examiner said Dominion didn't try hard enough to find ways to provide power by buying it on the energy market.
