Plenty of chances to have a blast at fireworks shows

Saturday - 6/29/2013, 2:21pm  ET

WASHINGTON - Fireworks shows are always a special part of 4th of July festivities around the country, and beaches in the region will be no different.

Ocean City, Md., is hosting its annual Independence Day fireworks shows in two locations: the beach boardwalk and Northside Park.

"Of course, at the boardwalk you're out in the beach and the sand, and up at Northside Park it's kind of like the field of dreams," says Mayor Rick Meehan.

He says they split the shows up so visitors won't have to cram into one location.

Sunday nights during the summer will be active in Ocean City. There'll be fireworks shows at Northside Park at night after concerts and laser shows every Sunday night through Labor Day.

Bethany Beach, Del., will have a day of festivities July 4, culminating in a fireworks show at dusk.

A parade kicks off at noon; a horseshoe-throwing contest will start up at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church grounds; and at 7:15 an awards ceremony will be held on the Bandstand.

The July 4 fireworks show at Virginia Beach, Va., will start at 9:30 p.m. But if visitors miss that show, they'll have 18 other chances to catch fireworks along the beach.

More than 100,000 people showed up to see the July 4 fireworks show at Rehoboth Beach, Del., in 2012. They're expecting just as large a crowd for its fireworks show this year.
