VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The State Board of Social Services is coming to Virginia Beach this week to discuss ways to prevent child deaths.
The board is scheduled to hold its monthly meeting Wednesday and Thursday at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/17RB8QS ) reports that the meeting is being held in Virginia Beach instead of Richmond because of a surge of child deaths in the region in 2012.
Board chairman Bob Spadaccini says the death of a 10-month-old boy in foster care also has drawn attention to child welfare in Virginia Beach.
