Thursday - 6/6/2013, 2:31pm  ET

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A Richmond woman accused of leaving her newborn daughter in a dumpster has been charged with first-degree murder.

Media outlets report that a grand jury indicted 27-year-old ShaVaughn Robinson on Wednesday. She was arraigned Thursday in Richmond Circuit Court.

Authorities say a janitor found the infant's body in a plastic trash bag in a dumpster on May 28.

Richmond prosecutor Janae Craddock says the infant died from asphyxiation.

Robinson's lawyer, supervising public defender Po Chau, declined to discuss the case in detail. But she told the Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/16MZUlp ) that the prosecutor misquoted Robinson during a hearing on Monday.

Robinson also is charged with concealing with a body. A preliminary hearing on that charge is set for June 12 in Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
