Rare Va. insects revealed in new atlas

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Skippers, moths and damselflies -- they're all in a new compilation of rare winged insects in Virginia.

Two state agencies teamed up to produce the electronic atlas of 193 species. Users can look up insects by name, the county where they have been observed and by type.

The atlas includes physical descriptions, behavior, food, threats and other interesting aspects on the insects.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries developed the "Atlas of Rare Butterflies, Skippers, Moths, Dragonflies and Damselflies."
