BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Two Corps of Cadets dormitories at Virginia Tech will be demolished as part of a $90 million redevelopment project.
Virginia Tech officials plan to replace Rache and Brodie halls with modern facilities. The dorms were built in the 1950s.
The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/14dzENq ) reports that the Board of Visitors unanimously approved demolition of the buildings on Monday.
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources also has approved the project. As part of that approval, the university agreed to preserve Lane Hall and to apply to have it listed on the state and national historic registers.
