Video may offer clue in man’s killing in D.C. (Video)

WASHINGTON – Police are seeking the public’s assistance identifying a person of interest in a Saturday homicide in D.C.

Thirty-one-year-old Robert Plight, a father of five, was killed in the 4400 block of Benning Road NE at about 8:17 p.m. The Metropolitan Police Department says the person of interest was captured on surveillance footage in the area.

Plight’s family tells ABC 7 the events leading to his death began when someone tried to rob Plight’s 15- and 16-year-old brothers and two young nephews.

The 12-year-old was apparently told, “You ready to die for your money?”

After hearing about the incident, Plight walked to the BP on Benning Road to find out what happened, ABC 7 says. Detectives say the suspect was there and had a gun.

He reportedly opened fire and shot Plight to death.

MPD offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in D.C. Anyone with information should call police at (202) 727-9099 or send an anonymous tip by texting 50411.
