Cab driver indicted on attempted murder charges of police officer

WASHINGTON – A grand jury in Alexandria has indicted taxicab driver Kashif Bashir, 27, of Woodbridge, on attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting police officer Peter Laboy in February.

Laboy, a motorcyle cop, was shot as he approached a taxi in Old Town Alexandria on Feb. 19. Alexandria prosecutors say they are still seeking witnesses in the case.

No trial date has been set for Bashir yet. He also faces weapons charges.

Laboy, who was shot in the head, has been recovering from his wounds since the incident.
