RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- National Park Service volunteers portraying Confederate sailors, heavy artillerymen, and Marines will demonstrate artillery action at a Richmond-area battlefield this weekend.

Officials say the events at historic Drewry's Bluff in Chesterfield County on the James River are part of the Richmond National Battlefield Park's living history weekend.

The Civil War site is one of 13 protected as part of the park in Hanover, Henrico and Chesterfield counties.

During the event, members of the James River Squadron will discuss the role of the Confederate Navy protecting Richmond along the river and show off various weapons they used.

Battle of Drewry's Bluff that took place on May 15, 1862, is notable because it was the Union Navy's only attempt to assault Richmond by water.
