D.C. ranks as top departure city for international travel

WASHINGTON – If you want to get away, this is place to be.

Washington is ranked the top departure city for international travel, according to CardHub.com.

The credit card adviser released its best and worst cities for summer travel, based on the vacation dates of July 13 to July 21.

“We found which ones offer the best combination of cheap prices, rather short travel times and short connections,” says John Kiernan, a senior analyst for CardHub.com.

Kiernan says the Washington region benefits from three airports and an advantageous location.

“The popular international travel destinations this year are European and Caribbean, so East Coast cities are conveniently located to access those locations without too much time, without too many costs incurred,” he says.

According to the rankings, the top five cities for international departures are the following cities:

  1. Washington
  2. New York
  3. Chicago
  4. Miami
  5. Philadelphia

The following cities are the top five rankings for domestic departures:

  1. Denver
  2. Dallas
  3. Chicago
  4. Detroit
  5. Las Vegas
