Reagan assistant faces child porn charges in Va.

WASHINGTON – A former Navy undersecretary is awaiting his trial on child pornography charges.

ABC 7 reports that J. Daniel Howard, 69 of Clifton, Va., was charged in January with two counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of copying, selling or transmitting child pornography.

He is out of jail on bail and is awaiting his June trial in Fairfax County, ABC 7 reports.

According to ABC 7, Howard served as special assistant to Reagan from 1986-1988, assistant secretary of defense from 1988-89, where he was a Pentagon spokesman, and as undersecretary of the Navy from 1989 to 1993.
