Speed limit increase possible on Beltway Express Lanes

WASHINGTON – Virginia may increase the speed limit to 65 mph on the Interstate 495 Beltway Express Lanes.

Transurban, the company that operates the 495 Beltway Express Lanes, requested the change, Virginia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Joan Morris tells The Examiner.

Transportation Secretary Sean Connaughton tells The Examiner a final determination will be made in the next few weeks.

The current speed limit on the toll lanes is 55 mph.

If you pay for a quicker commute, should you be able to drive faster? Or should everyone have to drive the same speed limit? Post a comment in this story, comment on WTOP’s Facebook Page or use #WTOP on Twitter.
