In a letter from Metro's deputy general manager Rob Troup, the agency says it won't accept the Silver Spring Transit Center, citing a recent report about the structural and safety concerns of the facility and that it would place an inordinate maintenance burden on WMATA.
Montgomery County is supposed to turn over the Transit Center before it opens so that Metro can operate it, similar to the Silver Line in Virginia.
County spokesman Patrick Lacefield says its just the opening gambit in negotiations and Montgomery County General Services Director David Dise says he doesn't think it will be Metro's final position.
Earlier this month, Dise told the County Council he hopes repairs on the Transit Center could be completed in 12 months.
