Security heightened at National Harbor nighttime 5K

WASHINGTON – Prince George’s County Police will increase security Saturday night at the annual 5K Glow Run as a precaution after the Boston Marathon bombings on Monday. Police also warn to leave backpacks at home.

Police will be on the lookout for possible explosives and the entire course and other areas of concern will be swept by K-9 bomb-detecting dogs. More officers on patrol will be on hand.

Lt. Chris Price of the Prince George’s county Police Special Operations Division advises to leave backpacks at home.

“There are no backpacks allowed in the event area,” he says adding, “if we see someone around with a backpack, we are going to stop and talk to them and check it.”

The run takes place at the National Harbor and is billed as a a fun evening event that includes a run/walk with black lights, laser lights and party lights jumping to music but police now are taking it very seriously

The Glow Run starts at 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
