BRISTOL, Va. (AP) -- A Virginia State Trooper who suffered a spinal cord injury while chasing a suspect has been transported to a Georgia rehabilitation center.
The Bristol Herald Courier (http://bit.ly/17sFvNr) reports 41-year-old Jamie Lawson will undergo treatment at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.
Lawson was injured April 9 in the Scott County community of Daniel Boone when he crashed into a parked vehicle. State Police say Lawson was chasing a suspect who failed to stop at a license checkpoint in Scott County. The suspect faces charges of attempted capital murder and several drug counts.
To assist his family with medical costs, a fund has been established at New Peoples Bank in Gate City.
