ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Virginia regulators have fined a former Pulaski County doctor $1,500 for dispensing a diet drug without a proper state license.
The Virginia Board of Medicine says that from November 2008 to June 2009, Dr. Ralph Hasspieler dispensed phentermine to five patients at a medical spa where he was director. A consent order didn't name the spa.
It says Hasspieler didn't keep adequate records of the diet drug's use at the spa, failed to perform required examinations of the patients and neglected to ensure they follow an exercise and diet program.
According to the order, Hasspieler acknowledged it was his responsibility to make sure the medical spa had the proper license to dispense the drug.
The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/17JIcgm) reports Hasspieler now lives in his native Canada.
