Fires prompt cancellations at Christopher Newport

Wednesday - 4/17/2013, 4:20am  ET

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) -- Classes are set to resume at Christopher Newport University a day after at least five bathroom fires prompted most campus buildings to be closed.

University spokeswoman Lori Jacobs says Tuesday's fires are being investigated as suspicious. The fires occurred in the student union, the Freeman Sports and Convocation Center, McMurran Hall, and two at Forbes Hall. No major damage was reported.

The Newport News Fire Department is investigating.

Classes were canceled Tuesday evening and are set to resume on Wednesday.
