ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Roanoke College has kicked off a new capital campaign with the largest single gift in its history.
Media outlets report that President Michael Maxey announced the $25 million pledge from the Mulheren family during a weekend event to launch the "Roanoke Rising" campaign.
The college says it already has met half the campaign's goal.
Nancy Mulheren is a 1972 graduate of Roanoke College. Her son, Sandy, and his wife, Vanessa, both graduated in 2002. Her late husband, John, graduated in 1971.
The college says the family has homes in Rumson, N.J., and Paint Bank in Craig County.
Nancy Mulhere says in a news release that the family wants to do all it can to make a difference at the college.
