WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) -- A book published by Colonial Williamsburg is exploring how values have shaped America.
The book, "The Idea of America: How Values Shaped Our Republic and Hold the Key to Our Future," was written by Richard Scotter, H. Michael Hartoonian and Bill White. It's part of the historic area's "Idea of America" initiative that includes several programs and educational resources.
Colonial Williamsburg's CEO Colin Campbell says the premise is that Americans embrace values that are often in tension. By examining how these value tensions played out throughout history, Campbell says the book demonstrates the continuing relevance of the country's founding ideals. Campbell says Colonial Williamsburg examines these tensions and continues the debate daily.
The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation operates and maintains the preserved 18th century site as an educational and tourist venue.
