Richmond drops job application felony disclosure

Tuesday - 3/26/2013, 8:50am  ET

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Many applicants seeking jobs with the city of Richmond will no longer have to disclose felony convictions on initial applications.

The Richmond-Times Dispatch (http://bit.ly/11GlKnW ) reports that City Council unanimously voted Monday night to remove the check box for felony convictions from applications for many positions.

Another ordinance approved Monday night requires applicants for some jobs to disclose felony convictions. These jobs include police, firefighters, positions with financial responsibilities and positions that require work with children.

Supporters of the change say convicted felons have difficulty finding employment and housing after they've completed their sentences.
