FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Mike Gillian has resigned after 10 seasons as the men's basketball coach at Longwood.
Athletic director Troy Austin says Gillian resigned Wednesday, ending the longest tenure for a men's coach in the program's 37-year history.
During his tenure, Gillian guided the Lancers' transition to Division I, and their move to the Big South Conference this season. They compiled an 8-25 record this year, including a 4-12 mark in league play, and lost in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. His overall record was 93-214.
Austin says Gillian played an important role in Longwood's history, and a national search for a successor will begin soon.
