BALTIMORE - Baltimore Police have identified the instructor involved in a training exercise when a trainee was shot in the head.
Police said Thursday that 46-year-old Officer William S. Kern was assigned as an instructor in the education and training section. He was taking part in the training Tuesday at a Baltimore County site when a trainee for the police force at the University of Maryland's Baltimore campus was shot and critically injured.
Officials say Kern is an 18-year veteran of the department.
Maryland State Police are conducting an investigation into the accident. Troopers said Thursday that the probe will take weeks.
