ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. - A Virginia man has been sentenced to four consecutive life terms in prison after being convicted of killing his father and stepmother.
Joseph Joyner Jr. entered an Alford plea Wednesday in Isle of Wight County Circuit Court, which means he acknowledged the state had enough evidence to convict him.
Police found the body of 58-year-old Sandra Joyner on April 26 inside the couple's home in Carrsville. The body of 62-year-old Joe Joyner Sr. was found the next day in woods near the couple's farm. An autopsy showed that Sandra Joyner died from blunt force trauma to the head. Joe Joyner Sr. died from a gunshot wound to the head.
WAVY-TV reports (http://bit.ly/14T3yp7) that Joyner was ordered a psychological evaluation in December to determine whether he was competent to stand trial.
