DINWIDDIE, Va. (AP) -- One person is dead and another is injured following a high-speed police chase in Dinwiddie County.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar says a man lost control of his car while fleeing from a Dinwiddie County sheriff's deputy. The car ran off the road and hit a utility pole.
Molnar says the man died at the scene. A passenger in the car suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The wreck occurred around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on southbound Route 1.
Molnar says the chase began when the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for a speeding violation. Speeds during the chase topped 100 miles per hour.
The driver hasn't been identified, pending notification of relatives.
