STANARDSVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The erosion of a dam in a Greene County subdivision is raising concerns.
WVIR-TV reports that police sent an emergency message to residents Tuesday night saying one of two dams in the Twin Lakes subdivision could fail.
The Twin Lakes Homeowners' Association says on its website that there is significant erosion around a spillway pipe.
The association says it doesn't believe a dam failure is imminent. But Lake Shenandoah will be lowered by at least 10 feet to alleviate pressure on the pipe and the eroded area.
The association says lowering the lake also will prevent further damage if there's another heavy rainfall before repairs are made.
A contractor will be brought in to develop a repair plan.
