LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Blue Ridge Parkway Superintendent Phil Francis is retiring after 41 years with the National Park Service.

The 60-year-old Francis will step down April 1.

He tells The News & Advance of Lynchburg that it's hard for him to leave. But it's time to retire.

Francis has been superintendent of the parkway since 2005.

He says declining resources are his biggest concern for the parkway's future.
