Accrediting agency team to visit U.Va. in Oct.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The University of Virginia will be visited in the fall by an accreditation review team that will investigate whether the school has addressed governance issues.

The review team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' Commission on Colleges is scheduled to visit U.Va. in early October. The commission put U.Va. on warning in December.

The commission concluded that a minority of U.Va. board members attempted to oust President Teresa Sullivan. It also said faculty leaders weren't consulted on or alerted to the decision.

The Daily Progress ( http://bit.ly/10TIIrv) reports that the accrediting agency has ordered U.Va. to provide a report explaining how it has addressed the issues.

U.Va. spokesman McGregor McCance says the university looks forward to preparing the report. He declined to provide details.
