RICHMOND, Va. - A resident of a Richmond apartment building faces charges of causing a water leak that prompted an evacuation and led to the structure's condemnation.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/WWIhog) reports that 56-year-old Gloria M. Snead is charged with destruction of property and violating the statewide fire prevention code.
Firefighters estimated water poured through the 11-story Grace Place apartment building at an estimated 30 to 40 gallons a minute after the leak occurred Jan. 15.
Richmond fire Lt. Robbie Hagaman says the leak was traced to a sprinkler head in a closet in Snead's apartment. They also found another sprinkler head that was broken and several others that were damaged in the apartment.
The leak displaced 26 residents.
