CHURCHVILLE, Va. - The Virginia State Police are investigating the fire deaths of three adults and a 9-year-old child in the Shenandoah Valley.
Churchville Deputy Fire Chief Craig Williams said the four died late Friday when fire destroyed their trailer home. The cause of the fire is not known.
Williams said one person escaped the flames and was treated at a local hospital.
State Police identified the victims as 40-year-old Charles E. Stokes, his 47-year-old wife Sharon E. Stokes and their son, Matthew Stokes. His grandmother, 62-year-old Wilda Stokes, is the fourth victim.
Wilda Stokes' husband, 67-year-old Lewis G. Stokes, survived. He was treated at a local hospital and released.
Williams called the deaths amid the holiday season a "horrible" loss.
