WASHINGTON - D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans says he has no plans to hold a follow- up hearing about unresolved questions related to the District of Columbia's contentious lottery contract.

In December, Evans demanded answers from Chief Financial Officer Natwar Gandhi, who repeatedly declined to discuss the contract and issues surrounding it because of pending legal matters.

Gandhi announced on Friday that he's stepping down in June. Evans told The Associated Press that Gandhi's resignation has nothing to do with his decision to put his own questions about the lottery deal aside.

Instead, Evans says he's deferring to the U.S. Attorney's Office. A federal grand jury has been empaneled to investigate the lottery contract. Evans says a council investigation would "just run into a stone wall" as long as the federal probe is ongoing.
