Gray campaign investigation to continue into next year

WASHINGTON – Federal prosecutors have asked for more time in the investigation into D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray’s 2010 campaign.

At a court hearing Wednesday for former Gray campaign advisor Thomas Gore, prosecutors asked that Gore’s sentencing be delayed until next year because his cooperation is still necessary.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly gave prosecutors a three-month extension, The Washington Post reports.

Gore pleaded guilty to felony obstruction of justice for his role in trying to cover up illegal payments to mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown.

Two others close to the Gray campaign have also entered guilty pleas.

The mayor refused to comment Wednesday on the investigation that began early in 2011. In the past, Gray has said he was cooperating with investigators but has since reportedly declined to answer questions from federal investigators.
