Police say 42-year-old Jeffrey Nedoroscik was found unconscious Monday evening on the first floor of a building in the 1800 block of First Street NW, in the city's Bloomingdale area.
Police and fire officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation. Homicide detectives are also involved in the investigation, which is routine in cases of unexpected deaths.
No additional information was immediately released.
