Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach to be dredged

Wednesday - 12/5/2012, 12:28pm  ET

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Army Corps of Engineers will dredge Rudee Inlet in Virginia Beach.

The dredging is scheduled to begin Friday and last for five days. The corps says the dredging is necessary because there's been significant shoaling across the entire entrance channel, which is used by commercial and recreational fishing boats to access the Atlantic Ocean.

About 20,000 cubic yards is expected to be dredged during the project and placed near shore north of the inlet's jetties.

The project will cost about $175,000, with the federal government paying for about 72 percent of the cost.
