WASHINGTON - A new lane for bicyclists has opened in downtown D.C.
Mayor Vincent Gray, other District officials and local bicyclists cut the ribbon Tuesday on a new separated bike lane on L Street NW.
The bike track runs east from New Hampshire Avenue to 12th Street. The lane is separated from vehicular traffic by a painted buffer and plastic bollards.
The bike lane is painted green at intersections for greater visibility. There are now nearly four miles of protected bike lanes in the District.
Gray says it's important to keep bicyclists safe and to reduce dependence on cars.
