VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The commanding officer of the amphibious dock-landing ship USS Fort McHenry has been removed from the job.
The Navy says Cmdr. Ray Hartman was relieved as the ship's skipper on Monday following an investigation into allegations of misconduct. The move was made by Vice Adm. Frank C. Pandolfe, commander of the Italy-based Sixth Fleet. The ship is currently on deployment conducting maritime security operations.
Hartman took command of the Virginia-based Fort McHenry in May 2011. The Navy says he's been temporarily reassigned to the staff of Destroyer Squadron 60 pending the results of the investigation.
The ship's executive officer, Cmdr. Eric Kellum, is the Fort McHenry's new commanding officer.
